What Films From 2015 Are Worth Watching?

2015 has been a very good year for movie lovers so far. From engrossing action films, to movies addressing mental illnesses, there has been a variety so far. Let’s take a look at the best of them:

1. EX MACHINA

EX MACHINA

Ex Machina was one of the most anticipated movies of 2015, and thankfully it has lived up to the hype. This movie gives us the beautiful, intelligent android, Eva, who is kept trapped by her creator. This highly stylish movie soars, and asks deep and disconcerting questions about our relationship with machines. The movie is not overdependent on CGI, and instead built upon the ample talents of a small cast.

2. IT FOLLOWS

s a teenage girl, Jay who is haunted by a strange curse after a one night stand. The only way to get rid of this curse is to sleep with someone else and pass on the curse. Director Robert Michell, with his brilliant, dark, understated direction pulls it off in a supremely scary way, while paying homage to horror classics.

3. MAD MAX: FURY ROAD

This movie has definitely set the bar high for the other action movies. With its fast paced editing and in-your-face style, this is a must watch for all the action lovers. In spite of all the action, it is unexpectedly touching and provides an emotionally satisfying conclusion to the exhilarating movie.

This is the kind of movie you go into expecting death defying stunts and brilliant action scenes, which the movie delivers by exceeding those expectations. Each action scene is brilliantly shot and edited. The movie does not have the greatest plot, but Tom Cruise’s talent and the fast paced nature of the movie manages to keep you on the edge of your seat for the 131 minutes.

5. AMY

Amy is the tragic tale about late singer, Amy Winehouse’s life, composed entirely of footage shot by Amy and her friends. The late 27-year old singer was one of the brightest talents, but was tormented by addiction. The director uses all the recordings of Amy, and then shapes them into a touching portrait of the late singer.

6. FAST AND FURIOUS 7

Each Fast and Furious movie has tried to outdo the previous ones, and this has been no exception. If the previous movie was about trying to bring down a plane, this movie is about driving cars through skyscrapers. With death defying stunts, witty one liners, and exotic locations, this movie will surely entertain you. The movie ends with an extremely emotional tribute to Paul Walker.

7. INSIDE OUT

Inside Out is one of the best movies Pixar has released in a while. When Pixar is at its best, the films are not only entertaining and funny, they are also piercingly emotional and feels like they are speaking directly to us. This movie will make sure you go through all the emotions of joy, fear, anger, disgust and sadness.

8. LOVE AND MERCY

This movie is about Brian Wilson, a man so possessed and infatuated with getting the perfect sound, that it ultimately led to his downfall. Paul Dano plays Brian Wilson so brilliantly, that you may forget that you are actually watching a movie. This movie about mental illness is one of the most emotionally gripping movies of this year.

9. JURASSIC WORLD

It may not be as good as the original movie, but it was still a very entertaining watch from the start. It had its own plot and also packed in nostalgic references to the original sequel. With impressive special effects, and brilliant direction, this movie is definitely a must watch.

10. SPY

Spy tells us about just how powerful any women can be when given the same resources and consideration as any other male. Spy is funny, empowering and thrilling all at once. It is an action comedy that never takes itself too seriously, but manages to address some serious issues.
